DACA Day at City Hall

On October 23rd from 4pm – 8pm,  the Office of New Bostonians partnered with Councilor LaMattina, the Student Immigrant Movement, Greater Boston Legal Service and MIRA to bring together volunteer lawyers to City Hall to help young people apply for DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) or renew their DACA applications from 2012. DACA allows these individuals to get a work permit, apply for a driver’s license, and, in Massachusetts, qualify for in-state tuition.  In 2012 only about 50% of eligible individuals actually applied. Despite inclement weather, we had 70 participants, 13 of whom were new applicants.  These youth braved the rain and wind to make it to City Hall from as far as Pawtucket, Rhode Island.IMAG0358
